The Ranger Describes The Lake, exhibited October 2016 at Froelick Gallery, depicted the 2013 Federal government shutdown. That fall I was a chaperone on a school trip to Crater Lake National Park. We drove five hours and found a skeleton crew blocking any view of the lake. We camped four days at a state park, hiked the edges of CNLP and hoped in vain it would reopen. The needs of the students left no time for color sketches, but I still made over a dozen quick drawings; these were the source material. The paintings presented a small inconvenience related to a much greater public vulnerability.
