In late July 2015, activists in kayaks, canoes, and climbing gear trapped the Shell ice breaker, Fennica, in Portland for 40 hours to protest Arctic oil drilling. This happened about a mile from my studio and a documented what I could in drawings and oil. One painting was sold as a donation to Greenpeace. A montage of the work appeared as a pullout poster in Greenpeace's Compass magazine, and I traveled to Oakland to paint a mural in their Oakland warehouse and community center.
